Doshisha University welcomes its 150th anniversary of foundation in 2025, as one of the oldest universities in Japan. Founded in 1875 by Joseph Hardy Neesima (Jo Niijima), one of the first Japanese persons to receive a degree from a Western institution of higher learning, the once an small English school has now become an institution of 14 faculties and 16 graduate schools, over 28,000 students including more than 1400 oversea students. As for English-based programs, there is the Institute for the Liberal Arts Program for undergraduate students. For graduate students, there are International Science and Technology Course [ISTC], Global MBA/Global Business and Management Studies [GBMS] and Graduate School of Global Studies.
