Established in 1858 by Yukichi Fukuzawa, Keio University has a history as Japan’s very first private institution of higher learning. The founder’s educational philosophies such as Dokuritsu Jison (Independence and Self-Respect) and Jitsugaku (Science rather than short-sighted practical disciplines) still lie at the heart of education and research at Keio University today. Keio is a comprehensive university with over 33,500 students on-campus, comprising 10 undergraduate faculties and 14 graduate schools. To enhance student and academic exchange as well as research collaboration activities, we have concluded partnership agreements with over 300 universities and institutions of higher education worldwide, and established 31 double degree programs with top universities around the globe. Nearly 1,000 classes and many degree courses are available in English at Keio, Over 2,100 international students from 85 countries and regions are currently studying with us.
